Objectives

  • To prevent and eradicate the menace of ragging, which includes any behaviour by a student that involves teasing, mistreating, or rudely handling a fresher or another student, as well as engaging in disorderly or undisciplined conduct through spoken or written words or actions.
  • To supervise and manage the operations and effectiveness of the Anti-Ragging Squads in preventing and controlling ragging within the institution.

General Roles and Responsibilities

  • The authorities shall maintain a constant vigilance around the campus and other areas that are susceptible to ragging or have the potential for such incidents, and they are authorized to inspect such areas at any time.

Implementation of guidelines of statutory/regulatory bodies

The AICTE in New Delhi, via Notification no. 37-3/Legal/AICTE/2009 dated 25-03-2009, has expressed deep concern over incidents of ragging in educational institutions. In compliance with the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India's Order dated 16.5.2007, the AICTE has directed the strict enforcement of rules and regulations aimed at preventing and prohibiting ragging in technical institutions.
Ragging includes various forms of physical and mental abuse, financial extortion, and wrongful confinement. It is a punishable offense according to the Supreme Court of India and University Grants Commission.
An Anti-Ragging Committee has been formed to ensure compliance with laws related to ragging. This committee ensures a ragging-free environment in the college campus by preventing any disorderly conduct towards students that may cause physical or mental torture or agitation.
It shall be the duty of the Anti-Ragging Committee to ensure compliance with the provisions of these Regulations as well as the provisions of any law for the time being in force concerning ragging; and also to monitor and oversee the performance of the Anti-Ragging Squad in prevention of ragging in the institution.

Procedure for receiving the complaint/grievances

Initially general orientation/awareness programmers are conducted to make the students aware of the process and mechanism of complaints/grievances against the incidents involving ragging. The following are various channels to receive the complaints/Grievances:

  • Complaint/Suggestion boxes are placed at prominent places of the institute with lock and key and the day and time of opening the box generally once in fortnight in the presence of atleast two members of the committee (mostly one will be the Coordinator).
  • Can approach the committee members or post their complaint to the Principal through the college emal ID.
  • Can approach the any faculty member or directly to the Principal.
  • The complaint/grievance should be received in the given format of written document or oral complaint. If it is an oral complaint at least 2 of the anti-ragging committee members should listen and prepare a document and get the signature of the student. If thestudent is not willing to sign then the two members should sign on behalf of the student.
  • The complaints are noted in a register and get sorted out immediately based on the complaint to the respective committees.
