Today’s life is shaped by the technological innovations of the past. The great innovators of the good old days broke conventions and laid out new approaches to make people’s lives better.
Here, we talk about some of the most important technological innovations done by people with technical education that shaped modern life.
1) World Wide Web
British CERN physicist, Tim Berners-Lee, created the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1990. Later in 1993, he made an announcement that the WWW would be free for everybody to use.
Email is one of the most important innovations. The first email was sent by computer scientist Ray Tomlinson. He was the person to use the @ symbol so that the hostname would be separate from the user in the mailing address.
Websites are what make up the internet. Researcher at CERN, Tim Berners-Lee was the person to create the first website.
4) Personal computer
Back then, computers were large, bulky, and complex to be used by people. It was Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak who teamed to form Apple and create personal computers that had a simple user interface which could be used by everybody.
5) Mobile phones
Mobile phone has played an integral role in shaping the modern world. It was Motorola researcher Martin Cooper who invented the first mobile phone. He was also the first person to make the first mobile phone call in public.
6) Camera phone
Camera is one of the most important features in a mobile phone as people need it to take pictures on-the-go. Thanks to entrepreneur Philippe Kahn who developed the first camera phone by syncing a digital camera to a Motorola flip phone using his laptop.
The development of the iPhone is what gave birth to all the features and technologies that are integrated into modern smartphones. Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, took the smartphone and tech market by storm when he introduced the first iPhone in 2007. Since then, the smartphone world has become very different.
8) Electronic fund transfer
Sending money over the internet has played an important role in making the lives of people easier. All thanks to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco as it set up a paperless money transfer system in 1972.
