The world’s first general purpose computer that integrated 18,000 vacuum tubes weighed 30 tonnes and took the size of an entire room. Today, the function of those vacuum tubes can be contained in the size of a grain of sand through transistors. A modern phone contains about 2 billion transistors.
LED, or Light Emitting Diode, has brought a massive change in the lighting technology. Without LEDs, there would be no backlit smartphones, computer LCD screens, Blu-ray players, and smart TVs.
LEDs give off very bright light while consuming less electricity; and as LEDs have a compact build, they are highly energy efficient. LEDs also have a longer lifespan than that of incandescent light bulbs. LEDs are used in almost every electronic device – computers, phones, printers, cameras, etc.
